Jacob’s Ladder

By the end of the first session most of my students have acquired the confidence needed to tackle Osage Four Diamonds, otherwise known as Jacob’s Ladder. i mention to them that in this four-diamond figure, wraps rather than simple crossings are present where the center two diamonds join the outer two diamonds. To refresh your memory, here is how it is made:

Loom Phase: Same as Osage Two Diamonds.

Weaving Phase

  • Pass the thumbs under all four strings and bring back the far little finger string.
  • On each hand, reach over the near index string with your thumb, pick up the far index string, and return. Drop the little finger loops.
  • On each hand, reach over the near index string with your little finger, pick up the far thumb string, and return. Drop the thumb loops.
  • On each hand, reach over both index strings with your thumb, pick up the near little finger string, and return.

Extension Phase:

Same as Osage Two Diamonds.

The result is Jacob’s Ladder
